Stephen's Ministries

Stephen Ministry News!!

Give the Gift of Christian Care-Jesus affirmed the Old Testament teaching to "love your neighbor as yourself" (Leviticus 19:18). There are many ways to do this: give someone a ride to church, teach a Bible Study class, mow someone's lawn, volunteer at Elder Services or one of the local shelters.

Stephen Ministry is another important, tangible way to show God's love to others. Stephen Ministers are God's representatives who bring His love to those who are hurting. Is God calling you to reach out to those who are hurting?

Consider serving as a Stephen Minister. A new training class will be beginning on January 13, 2010 at Hope Lutheran Church in Plant City. For more information please call Lynn Simons at 660-4379 or Dick Booth at 813-905-5033.

STEPHEN MINISTRY PROGRAM MISSION

PROVIDE COMPETANT CARE. Christ the Shepherd Cooperative Parish’s (CSCP) Stephen Ministry Program provides trained caregivers to adults; meeting them in their pain and need. Our commissioned Stephen Ministers and Leaders have received over fifty hours of training to provide high-quality Christian care to meet the following types of needs:

·      Crisis care - Helping people cope with unexpected life events such as hospitalization, terminal illness, death of a loved one, divorce, unemployment, financial setback, etc.,

·      Follow-up care  -Helping people rebuild their lives in the aftermath of a life crisis such as on-going recovery from major surgery,  renewed feelings following a significant loss, etc.

·      Chronic care - Helping people cope with long-term disability, chronic illness, degenerative disease, ongoing physical pain (such as from arthritis), etc.,

·      Preventive care - Helping peopleanticipate and prepare fora major life change such as upcoming retirement, marriage, new career, birth of a first child, etc., and

·      Caregiver care - Helping people who are providing crisis care to someone else, but who themselves also need care.

STPEPHEN MINISTRY MISSION:  “To provide high quality one-to-one Christian care to adult members of Christ the Shepherd Cooperative Parish’s congregations and/or residents of the local Lakeland/Mulberry, Florida area who are experiencing unexpected difficulties in daily living. Commissioned Stephen Ministers and Leaders provide confidential care that is:

·      Distinctively Christian, including the appropriate/sensitive use of the Bible, prayer, confession/forgiveness, talking about God, pronouncing blessings, worship, Christian arts, and other support for care-receivers with deep spiritual, social, mental, emotional, and/or physical needs,

·      Process-oriented, creating caring relationships where individual care-receivers can discover their own solutions to unexpected difficulties,

·      Intentional, adhering to proven caregiving skills, leadership, and administrative methods detailed in Stephen Ministries St. Louis’s program resources and in CSCP’s Stephen Ministry Management Plan, and

·      Reliant upon God, realizing the freedom provided by trusting God to bring about healing, wholeness, and hope to care-receivers.”
