I expected hypocrisy, guilt, and boredom but I found honesty, acceptance and hope.
"Failed relationships, bad choices, and worse. I was so tired of running from my problems. I considered going to church, but thought, 'If they really knew me they’d never accept me.' But guess what? I was wrong. I was accepted. Most importantly, I found forgiveness from God. I feel like a ton of bricks has been lifted off my shoulders, and while I am not proud of my past I don’t have to run away from it anymore. I am walking toward my future, and I’ve realized that I don’t have to walk alone."
At Shepherd's Community UMC we believe that God meets us right where we are. You don't have to get your act together and clean-up your life before seeking God or coming to church. You come as you are, and God accepts you, forgives you, and gives you a new lease on life.
We don't care about the clothes you wear, the color of your hair, or how many tattoos or piercings you have. While the dress is casual and music is contemporary, the most important thing for us is deeply connecting with God. We meet to experience the presence of God so we can be healed of our hurts and given the courage, strength, and hope to move more closely to the life of freedom, peace, and joy to which God is always calling us.
Instead of a minister with dollar signs in his eyes preaching fire and brimstone, you’ll meet a caring pastor who has also felt the pain of mistakes and broken relationships. Rather than shaming you into following a list of rules, he’ll teach you about God’s love and freedom in a way that speaks to real people with real problems who need real solutions. So throw on a pair of jeans and come visit our friendly and down-to-earth community. You won’t be disappointed!
